Harvey Sweetland Lewis is an World Class American ultrarunner, social studies and economics teacher, world traveler and public speaker from nearby Cincinnati OH.
Noted for his spontaneity as much as his dedication, Lewis often seeks new challenges to improve his health, with positive effects on the community or the environment as a side benefit. For example, he commutes to work every day of his own volition, usually running or cycling, but occasionally skiing or walking. Even on days immediately following an endurance race, he makes the six-mile round trip commute with his backpack filled with a change of clothes, his laptop, graded homework assignments and his packed lunch.
Lewis has competed in well known events such as Badwater, Arrowhead Ultra and the Marathon des Sables, as well as lesser known endurance events such as the Ultra Gobi, where part of the challenge for the 50 participants is in self-navigating and self-supporting the 400 km course (250 miles) through the Gobi Desert in western China, Gansu province, with temperatures ranging from below freezing to 100 °F.
We are blessed to have Harvey Lewis visit us as he is coming off one of his most accomplished running years (2019) of his career with an incredible performance at the 2019 24 Hour World's Championship in France achieving 3rd scorer for team USA and 13th Overall with a an outstanding PR of 160.609 miles helping the Team USA win Gold!! He also placed 3rd overall at this years Badwater 135 miler a race he won back in 2014 just to name a few.
We look forward hearing all about his wonderful adventures from his amazing running career as well as the very anticipated adventure captured on an upcoming film titled "Like Harvey Like Son" from a couple of years ago when Harvey and his Father Harvey Jr as his crew chief completed the Appalachian Trail in one of the fastest known times (FKT) ever!
