City of Irvington recently issued the following announcement.
Name: Developing A Series
Date: Saturday, February 22, 2020 at 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM EST
Details
This workshop focuses on developing and presenting a single theme to be enhanced by producing multiples. Each work in a series should both stand as an individual and work well when presented in a group format. You will leave this workshop with the tools to make this happen.
Working in a series is a concentrated practice that will strengthen your abilities as well as help you build a body of work, to show or sell.
This practice can help you refine your voice or find your unique style as an artist because practice is the only way to get better.
In this class, internationally exhibiting artist, Toby Penney will offer you the simple steps she employs for working in a series. This process is integral to her studio habits and is one of the ways she maintains the momentum to continue to develop work even when life is hectic or when it feels hard to find the time to make art.
This process is approachable and good for beginners through professional track artists for creating any style of art representational to abstract art.
Note: The 'Working in a Series' class is based around visual art, specifically painting. However, the same principles and systems are applicable to all mediums. I use a modified version of this process in my sculpture, printmaking, painting, drawing, & new media work. Artists of all mediums and skill levels are welcome.
The studio will open @ 9:30 for coffee and visiting. Instruction will begin at ten. There will be lots of one on one assistance. Each artist will leave with at least five canvases in a developing series, along with lots of ideas to continue activating.
We will break for lunch at noon. Downtown Frankfort offers many delicious lunch options within walking distance of the studio. Participants are also welcome to bring a lunch and eat while enjoying each other and the space. The large windows let beautiful light into the creative space throughout the day.
The cost of the workshop includes all materials needed for the day and is 175.00/ student. Reserve your spot with a deposit via PayPal @ Penneypress@gmail.com .
